Boroondara Lions Football Club News !!!

PRE SEASON TRAINING SCHEDULE AVAILABLE HERE

It is with great excitement that I formally advise both the members of the Boroondara Lions FC and the Templestowe Eagles SC that our respective clubs have decided to merge.

The club will now be known as the Boroondara Eagles FC and will be playing in State League 3 S/E. The home ground will be Macleay Park in North Balwyn and the playing strip will be White and Purple.

The junior uniforms will remain the same. The Boroondara Eagles FC name ensures that history and identity of both clubs is retained within the merger. Club updates can be found at www.blfc.com.au

Boroondara Lions FC

From the perspective of the BLFC, the senior club, which was formally playing in Provisional League 3, will now be playing in State League 3. This is very big step up for Boroondara and something that may have taken many years to achieve in the ever improving standard of competition in Victorian Football.

The significant step up in competition will provide a much higher profile for Boroondara throughout the football community and also give the up and coming junior players a higher standard of football to aspire to. The merger at a senior level will not change the current format of our juniors nor the ethos or manner in which the club is run. From the senior perspective, it allows the senior part of the club to consolidate and become a more organized part of the club whilst also ensuring that we have a dedicated properly functioning committee.

Templestowe Eagles FC

The Templestowe Eagles FC are a senior club that has a rich history which spans over almost 30 years. From the Eagles perspective, the merger is a positive step forward towards securing their future as a long-term entity. The lack of a significant junior club to act as a "feeder" to the seniors was one inhibiting factor the Eagles had in their development. By acting now, whilst the Eagles still have a position in one of Victorian Football's higher leagues, they are able to offer something that would otherwise have been unattainable for Boroondara in the short-term whilst also ensuring that the 30 years of history is not lost.

Moving Forward:

Louise Howieson will again been the junior administrator of the club for the 2008 season and will be sending out details regarding the upcoming season shortly. Louise has been and continues to be a huge asset to the club. Without her amazing commitment over the past three seasons the junior club would not be anywhere near as successful and organized as they are today. If anyone is interested or knows someone that might be interested in either coaching one of our junior sides or becoming involved on an administrative level please email louiseh@internode.on.net

We strongly encourage any senior players who might be interested in coaching to please email the club.

There are a number of paid junior coaching positions available for next season including but not limited to the following teams:

  • Under 18 Boys
  • Under 17 Boys
  • Under 18A Girls
  • Under 18 Girls – Second team
  • Under 16 Girls – Second team
  • Under 15 Girls

  • COMMITTEE/CONSTITUTION:

The club is currently redrafting its constitution to acknowledge the merger, the name change and the manner in which the club will be run. A draft copy will be forwarded to all members shortly for their comments and feedback.

Once the new constitution has been finalized the Club Committee, Senior Committee and Junior Committees will be confirmed.

    SENIOR PRE-SEASON DATES:

After an extensive two month interview process which involved two committee members from the Eagles and two committee members from the Lions, the club can now very happily announce that its senior coach for the 2008 season will be Perri Tsiaplias. It was very important for the club that we employed a coach that would be able to play an active involvement in assimilating the two clubs whilst also ensuring that we achieve the best on field results as possible. Perri has had wide-ranging coaching experiences at a number of levels throughout Victoria and his passion and organization provides the committee with a very high level of enthusiasm and expectation for the upcoming season.

Players who are interested in trying out for either the Senior or Reserve teams in 2008 are requested to attend the clubrooms at 4:00pm this Sunday the 13 th of January 2008 for some drinks and a "meet and greet" with the new Coaching Staff and players. This is also a good opportunity for the players of both clubs to meet each other before training starts.

All players will be provided with a pre-season training schedule on Sunday however, it should be noted that pre-season training will commence on Tuesday the 15th of January 2008

Details regarding thirds teams that we will be fielding in 2008 will be released shortly, however anyone who is interested in managing or coaching any of these teams should contact the club. Any senior enquiries should be forwarded to befcinfo@gmail.com. We otherwise look forward to seeing you all soon.
